A complete DOUBLE lesson, PowerPoint and resources for the book ’The Boy In The Striped Pyjama’s ’ By John Boyne This is a lesson thattakes the children though planning and writing a story based around the themes of the novel This is lesson 12 in a series of 12. The whole scheme of work is available. The whole scheme includes 12 full lessons, each fully resourced, and including a detailed PPT. The scheme culminates in the class writing a short story, along a similar theme to the original text, using all of the descriptive techniques learned and developed during the series of lessons. The unit begins with a cold task, and ends with the short story planning and writing (hot task) This scheme was incredibly engaging and produced brilliant pieces of writing. This is a full week of detailed planning , based around King Richard the third, and the discovery of his body in Leicester. The final lesson also uses Michael Morpurgo’s Story linking the Leicester cup win to Richard! On the planning, there is a link to a fully adaptable Prezi presentation which accompanies the planning. A whole week of planning and resources, aimed at year 3/4. Linked to the Egyptian book of the dead. This week long unit really improved the writing in my class, taking the process step by step and modelling at each stage. They were then able to do the process independently in our subsequent units. The week opens by watching an animated version of the myth. Children then spend the week learning how to structure and write a 5 part action story, using description, showing not telling, suspense and detail. Designed to incorporate lots of shared writing and modelling as a class and in pairs.
